Abstract
Many factors affect poverty in a region. According to Tambunan (2001), a lot of factors that affect poverty both directly and indirectly, among others, are as follows: the rate of growth of output or labor productivity , the level of net wages, income distribution, employment opportunities (including the types of jobs that are available), the rate of inflation, public facilities such as (basic education, health, transportation, electricity, water and residential locations), use of technology, the level and type of education, physical condition and the nature of an area, work ethic and motivation to work, culture or tradition, politics, natural disasters and wars.
Sitaro district is an area of the archipelago consists of three islands, namely the island of Siau, Tagulandang and Biaro, the number of islands are 47 consists of 10 inhabited islands and 37 uninhabited islands. Sitaro district residents mostly live in coastal areas so that their livelihood is fishing. With most people living in coastal areas far from the district fishermen also very dependent on the weather conditions at sea make the problem of poverty in the area so need to be studied
This study aims to analyze and explain the effect of Education Level on Poverty in Sitaro District. Research sites in North Sulawesi Sitaro district consisting of three islands namely Siau island, Tagulandang island and Biaro island.
The research belongs to explanatory research. The samples are taken by using proportionate random sampling technique and the samples in this study were fishermen. The data collecting technique is questionnaire. The data is analyzed by using linear regression.
