Abstract

Batik-oriented SMEs conditions increase the income and welfare of batik artisans, support the development of creative industries, and supporting the economic development of the region, especially in Sragen, Central Java. In particular, this study aims to: (1) To explore the potential of batik industry to support the development of creative industries insightful local knowledge, (2) identify the possible development of batik industry which is currently used in Sragen regency. This research is descriptive and qualitative approach. Research data collection is done by using several methods, which consists of observations and interviews. The data analysis was done by using interactive analysis (Miles & Huberman, 1984) and internal-external analysis. Results of this research is, the raw material most widely used is primed and primisima. Most of the raw materials come from Surakarta, the purchase of raw materials is largely done in cash and credit. Most SMEs use chemicals to produce batik. Batik products at most is writing, printing, and cap combination. Batik making are mostly done manually. Batik products are the most popular consumer are: 1). Types of cotton fabrics (primisima), 2). a combination of techniques, 3). Natural dyes,and 4). 2.5m fabric size.
