Abstract
The objectives of this research were to describe the meaning, form of structure and type of proverb in Tondanese.
The research was conducted in Kiniar village Tondano. The data collected through participated observation complected by free interview. They were then analyzed through several stages 1) the collected data were translated in to Indonesian, and then freely interpreted according to the meaning of proverb involved, 2) the data were classified based on the meaning, form of structure and types.
This research used some theories. According to Kridalaksana proverb consisted of the aphorism, imagery and motto. Aphorism is allusion expressed with the sentence finish figurative of circumstance or somebody deportment by taking comparison. Motto is minor sentence or complete sentence that happened from frase or clause took a fancy to by society. Its contents keep up spirits the aspiration and struggle.
The research findings indicated that the meanin of proverb of Tondanese describe the Tondano people’s pattern of thought and as well as describe the meaning general. Structure of language of proverb of language Tondano consisted of the frase and clause. Frase consisted of the adjectival phrase, verbal phrase, numeral phrase, and nominal phrase. Clause consisted of the simple sentence, koordinative sentence and subordinative sentence, and imperative sentence.
