Abstract
The objectives of this research were to determine the types of important pests and other biotic as
potential pests in rice field, also to know pest populations, natural enemy species populations; and the
damage caused by pests relating to the conditions or environmental dynamics in the field. This study
was conducted in the centers of rice fields in the province of North Sulawesi. The locations of research
were regencies of Central Minahasa, South Minahasa and Bolaang Mongondow. Observations were
made on the rice paddy which indudes the population of pests, natural enemies and the extensive
damages or pest attacks in 1 to 2 growing seasons. Data were collected 3 to 6 times, depending on the
conditions and the acquisition of data in the field. Important pests found in the rice field were
planthopper, stem borefs, soilbug , rice seedbug, rodents and snails. Forecasting models We<e done
according to the guidelines of the Directorate Genefal of Food Crop Production Forecasting Center for
Plant Pest Organisms Department of Agriculture in 2003. Data of damages in rice plants were obtained
from the Institute of Plant Protection and Horticulture (BPTH) of North Sulawesi Province. Data of pest
populations were obtained by direct observation of the research team of the Faculty of Agriculture Sam
Ratulangi University and the research team of the Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of
North Sulawesi Province Agency.
