Abstract
The natural forests of South Minahasa (as of North Sulawesi) are generally distributed within a mosaic pattern subjected to logging concession in the past This might have some impact on the successional pattern of the forest owing to the species composition shown by the remaining forest structure. This research was aimed to study the remaining stand structure of the natural forest found in Poigar, South Minahasa. Quadran method was employed where vegetation analyses were conducted on each quadran distributed throughout the forested area. Results showed that the stand structure is relatively uniform among all growth stages (seedlings, saplings, poles, and mature trees). Among those, groups of seedling and sapling are higher, however, the difference can be negligible. On each of the growth stages, the dominance of primary tree species still prevails over the secondary species; nevertheless, less sound forest management might change this surressional direction into a secondary forest in the future.
