Abstract
Abstract — Excitation is one of the most crucial parts of the synchronous generator system, where excitation plays a role in forming / producing a time-changing flux, resulting in an induced EMF. After the AC generator reaches nominal speed, the field is excited from the DC supply. At a certain time, the excitation will also experience a drastic increase which can cause overexcitation of the generator. In this research, we will observe the excitation voltage at the 20MW synchronous generator at PLTP Lahendong Units 1 and 2, and get a solution to overcome the over-excitation problem that occurs due to several things such as high loads on the generator and also incorrect readings on the DCS card which can cause sudden trips. in the generator system, therefore it takes a means of manually adjusting the excitation to overcome this problem. In this study also listed the ideal thyristor opening angle value at each load as a means of adjusting the excitation value from PMG to the exciter with an average value ranging from 60o to 90o.
