Abstract

This research started from researcher’s desire to test empirically the effect of terrestrial space utilization pattern changes to the lake eutrophication. The reason behind this study was that the fact that there is a tendency in the change of the terrestrial space utilization pattern around Lake Mooat which occurs continuously and uncontrollably. Each space utilization within the area around the lake in a span of 10 years (1988-1998), the extent of land has changed as follows : (1) in 1988 the total extent of land within the protected zone was 2389.975ha, and in 1988 the total extent of land changed into 1208.925ha; (2) in 1988 the total extent of land within the cultivation zone was 647.6 ha; and in 1998 the total extent of land changed to 1828.7ha. From the data, it is found out that from 1988 to 1998, 118.11 ha of the protected zone has been converted to cultivation zone or an increase of 4% each year. Of the above data, it is concluded that in 1988 the composition of the land space utilization within the area around Lake Mooat, where the protected zone occupied 79% and cultivation area of 21% of the land extent, quotion has placed the trophic condition of Lake Mooat waters under the category of end of olygotrophic. In 1988 where the protected zone occupied 40% and the cultivation zone occupied 60% of the land extent, quotation has placed the trophical condition of Lake Mooat waters at the eutrophic category. At such condition (without any management), Mooat Lake waters is predicted to enter the dystrophic category in 2092.
