Abstract

Abstract — The Primary Air Fan (PA Fan) plays a crucial role in the combustion system of a boiler, particularly in coal-fired Steam Power Plants (PLTU), as it supplies the primary air required for the combustion process. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the PA Fan in Unit 2 of PLTU 2 North Sulawesi and propose optimization measures to improve boiler combustion efficiency. The methodology includes collecting technical and operational data, as well as analyzing fan and boiler efficiency test results. The findings show that the PA Fan efficiency only reached 64%, which is significantly lower than the design specification of 87%, while the boiler efficiency was recorded at 80%. This low efficiency is attributed to several factors, including deteriorating mechanical conditions of the fan, air leakage, and suboptimal air flow regulation. The study recommends improvements such as enhanced maintenance programs, the implementation of a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), air duct system repairs, and fan blade maintenance. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for improving boiler combustion performance and the overall operational efficiency of the power plant. Abstrak —Primary Air Fan (PA Fan) berperan penting dalam sistem pembakaran pada boiler, khususnya di Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap (PLTU), karena berfungsi menyuplai udara primer yang dibutuhkan dalam proses pembakaran batubara. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kinerja PA Fan pada unit 2 PLTU 2 Sulawesi Utara serta mengusulkan langkah-langkah optimalisasi guna meningkatkan efisiensi pembakaran boiler. Metodologi yang digunakan mencakup pengumpulan data teknis dan operasional, serta analisis hasil pengujian efisiensi fan dan sistem boiler. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa efisiensi PA Fan hanya mencapai 64%, jauh di bawah nilai ideal berdasarkan spesifikasi yaitu 87%, sementara efisiensi boiler tercatat sebesar 80%. Rendahnya efisiensi disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor, seperti kondisi mekanis fan yang menurun, adanya kebocoran udara, serta pengaturan aliran udara yang belum optimal. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan perbaikan melalui peningkatan pemeliharaan, pemasangan Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), perbaikan sistem saluran udara, dan perawatan sudu fan. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi dalam peningkatan performa pembakaran boiler dan efisiensi operasional PLTU secara keseluruhan.
