Abstract
Polimaan River is a main river of Polimaan Watershed. This river is located in South Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi Province. This river has main role in irrigation system and domestic activities. The quality of river is influenced by human activities in watershed. Riparian is an ecotone between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Vegetation riparian has ecological functions to maintain river quality by trapping pollutants from land upside transported by water and to keep water temperature. This research was to analyzed the diversity of riparian vegetation of Polimaan River in maintaining river quality. Based on Shannon-Wiener Index, diversity of Polimaan riparian vegetation is medium (≤ H≤ 3). The human activities increased from up to down that decreased riparian diversity index. Environmental efforts should be implemented especially at upper Polimaan River to conserve water quality.
